Annotation
The paper considers the process of formation of the means of communication which connected the Priamurie Kray with the center of the Russian Empire in the 19th century. The author comes to the conclusion that among the routes that existed at that time the most convenient routes were foreign routes via America or Asia. Thus practically every resident of the Kray who intended to come to the Kray on official business or commerce chose a trip across foreign countries. The neighbouring countries, especially Japan were not only transit points for the residents of the remote Russian region. They were also places of recreation, convalescence, business affairs, shopping and everything which is implied in the word "tourism" at present.
Key words: means of communication, Far East, the Priamurie Kray, Japan, the history of tourism, exit tourism, medical/health tourism.
