Contacts: e-mail: ta.snitko@gmail.com, snitkotn@mail.ru Annotation The paper is an attempt to interpret translation as "the meeting point of languages and cultures" and to dwell on different situations of meaningful interactions of languages and cultures in translation viewing them as conditioning factors for target translation. The observation centers around three main topics: cultures contacting in translation; languages contacting in translation; cultural meaning of "translation activity".
