Annotation
The article considers the main tendencies of the development of family as a social institution interrelated with the transformation of its value orientations within the context of social transformations. Transformation of family from patriarchal (traditional) to child-oriented (modern) and then to matrimonial (post-modern) is easily traced in the course of social development. The paper considers the characteristics of these mentioned types of families and their value orientations. Special attention is given to the analysis of factors which determine the transformation of family values and social consequences of the change of the family as an institution.
