Annotation
The translations of Shakespeare's Sonnets, published in the collection edited by S.A. Wengerov in 1905, became a significantly important phase in the history of Shakespeare's sonnets in Russia. Being undoubtedly great masters of the Russian sonnet, the authors of Wengerov's edition developed new ways to reconstruct genre-organizing foundations of Shakespeare's poetry: dramatic exertion of the plot, the functional depth of metaphors, and the specific complexity of poetic images. This article is the first to describe a particular type of the cyclic unity of Wengerov's collection and to emphasize its constructive character in the context of increased translation plurality of the Sonnets we are witnessing today.
