In article analyses the process of historical comprehension of cooperation in Russia in the beginning of 20th century. Extensive scientific and popular literature is devoted to the history of cooperative movement. Enormous factual and analytical material on various aspects of this theme has been collected. However, in domestic social science until now there is no clear conception of the place and the role of such many-sided phenomenon, as cooperation, in social evolution of the country.
