Annotation
The study of the structure and functioning of the capitalist system has recently become even more relevant due to the exacerba-tion of the contradictions of globalization. The article attempts to disclose these contradictions using methodological tools of the world system analysis and the postmodern concept of a simulacrum. The central tenet of this article is an assertion that the nature of modern capitalism is based on simulation. It means that the capitalist system is based on the exchange of resources for simulacra, i.e. resource simulations. Therefore, if this process ceases, the existence of the system itself will be menaced.
