Annotation
The article is dedicated to the activity of peasant chiefs in the Far East. The structure of peasant managerial institutions is analyzed. The difficulties of the work of peasant chiefs are pointed out. Special attention is paid to the relationship between peasant chiefs and institutes of peasant self-governing: village and volost' (the lowest administrative unit) meetings, volost' courts, peasant elected bodies. The stereotypes of national history connected with the work of peasant chiefs have are revised in the article.
